Description: The UK ISABEL were approached by representatives involved in the development of a new food strategy for Lincoln and the wider rural hinterland. A report was published in October 2016, which addresses food security and health problems of the population and at the same time articulates the vision of over 90 active groups and local organizations who are working across sectors of the food, health and socio economic landscape of Lincoln city and the surrounding areas. The study notes that approximately 312 hectares of cultivable land in Lincoln City could be used for food production, when allotments, principal open spaces, gardens and school lands are considered. The application of anaerobic digestion to manage multiple organic waste streams has the potential to catalysis a circular economy in the City, enabling the recycling of the urban food waste to generate biogas and a rich composting by-product to support local food production.
