Description: NEOGAL is a dairy industry cooperative located at Drama County in Eastern Macedonia region. Company’s shareholders include local breeders and employees. Part of NEOGAL’s vision is to assist the sustainable development of local communities by participating in relevant environmental and social initiatives.

Main actions so far:

• Elaboration of a feasibility study of a potential biogas plant concerning the largest livestock farm of the Community including:
  • Data on the types and quantities ofavailable biomass in the region (e.g. manure, non-marketable potatoes, dairy waste);
  • Estimation of the energy production of the potential biogas plant;
  • Revenues projections, estimated costs analysis and simplified income statement regarding the operation of the biogas plant;
• Identification of a suitable location for the above biogas plant according to current National and European legislation;
• Awareness raising actions regarding the new/ upcoming Greek law about Energy Communities and the requirements to be fulfilled by NEOGAL Community to become recognized as an “Energy Community” under this law.

Next steps:

• Elaboration of a feasibility study of a potential biogas plant concerning several livestock farms of the Community;
• Identification of feasible alternative locations for the above biogas plant according to current National and European legislation;
• Analysis of the licensing procedures for operating the above biogas plant;
• Exploring of potential funding sources.
